It’s been over a year since Game of Thrones reached its highly disappointing conclusion, but the pain of seeing a story we all fell in love with so much end so poorly hasn’t faded with time.

Game of Thrones was full of fascinating characters with amazing story arcs that were built up over seven seasons and… none of it went anywhere. None of it really meant anything in the end and many beloved characters didn’t get the conclusions they so badly deserved.

In fairness, Jorah (Iain Glen), Sansa (Sophie Turner), Theon (Alfie Allen), The Hound (Rory McCann), Davos (Liam Cunningham) and Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) did get mostly satisfying endings, but they are in the minority.

Thanks to the appallingly rushed pacing and increasingly hit-or-miss writing, this is a show that ultimately betrayed many of its characters and as a result, the ending of this once-brilliant program is pretty much a showcase of how not to end a TV show.

If he ever actually finishes the books, hopefully George R.R. Martin will give some of these characters their deserved endings. With quite a few of them it’s unlikely he could do any worse than the show did.
