As the sixth episode of this shortened season, “Beyond the Wall” happens to be the penultimate hour of Game of Thrones this year. So this episode is not only a big deal because of its record running time, but also because it’s effectively an “episode nine.” Going by the sheer amount of promotional material, it may well live up to its promise. After a first batch of twelve, today 20 new photos were released by FarfarAwaySite, showing us Dragonstone, Winterfell, and the quest beyond the Wall in greater detail.
First we have a heart-to-heart between Daenerys and Tyrion, which is sure to be quite interesting after the events in the previous episode. Tyrion, as ever, looks worried. Of course, Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklage look as gorgeous as ever lit by the fireplace.
In Winterfell, Sansa and Arya stand where their parents often stood, looking down at the courtyard, and later talk in private. Sansa looks worried. Arya looks creepy. We are collectively worried. As for Littlefinger, I’m sure whatever he’s telling Sansa in that photo is completely innocent and not self-serving at all. And Brienne is back! It’d be nice if she began having a larger role again before the season comes to an end.
Finally, as expected, the most represented setting in this batch is the one that gives the episode its name — Beyond the Wall, depicted by the beautiful vistas of Iceland… and Iain Glen. The photographer really liked Iain Glen’s face, and who can blame them. Indeed, there’s a lot of Jorah here, as well as Jon Snow, Beric, Sandor, and Tormund. There’s a bit of Gendry and… does Thoros think he’s fooling anyone with that top knot?
With so many characters coming together, we can expect many an interesting conversation… before the shit inevitably hits the fan, that is. Is that what you guys are looking forward to the most?
