And just like that, award show season is on! Following the Golden Globes’ nomination announcement, the Screen Actors Guild has finally released their list of nominees for the 2018 SAG Awards and honestly, it’s a pretty close race for many of our faves.
First off, we’d like to mention that in the film category, ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ leads the noms with four mentions, while ‘Lady Bird’ came in second with three nominations. Both of these films’ nominations include being nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category where they’re up against ‘The Big Sick,’ ‘Get Out,’ and ‘Mudbound.’
Historically, the SAG Awards best predict the inevitable Oscar nominees, so it’s pretty surprising that Oscar faves like ‘Dunkirk,’ ‘The Post,’ ‘Call Me By Your Name,’ and ‘The Shape of Water,’ were snubbed from the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category. Especially since that category is basically the SAG Awards’ version of the Oscars’ ‘Best Picture’ category.
In TV, Netflix – to no one’s surprise (or maybe some surprises) lead the small screen noms with a whopping 19 nominations. ‘Stranger Things’ received four nominations and are tied with HBO’s ‘Big Little Lies.’
NBC favorite ‘This Is Us’ received two nominations. One for Sterling K. Brown in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series and another for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series where they’re up against ‘Stranger Things,’ ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘The Handmaid’s Tale,’ and ‘The Crown.’ To get the full list of SAG nominations, you can head on over to Sag-Awards-dot-org to see if some of your other faves made the list!
In other SAG Award news, the upcoming show will have its first ever host to run the show and the honor goes to none other than Kristen Bell.
Kristen told E! News of her new hosting gig QUOTE, “I am honored to be part of the SAG Awards and am a little nervous about being its first-ever host. I’m so glad that I’ll be in the company of my fellow actors, many of whom I’ve worked with before, so I know they’ll be warm and supportive. It’s going to be an amazing night.” It’s a lot of pressure to be the first host of the award show EVER, but something tells us Kristen is gonna kill it.
So what did you guys think of these nominations? Were you surprised by some of the films that were left off of the biggest category ever?!
