With Game of Thrones ending, avid watchers might feel lost navigating the world of television after the final episode airs.

The following shows might not be as grandiose and ambitious as GOT, but they may be able to quench your thirst for high-quality television entertainment — that is, until the prequel series based on George RR Martin’s a Song of Ice and Fire is released.

Westworld

For starter, the opening score was composed by Ramin Djawadi, who also created the iconic opening of Game of Thrones.

Loosely adapted from the 1973 movie of the same name, Westworld takes viewers to “a meticulously crafted and artfully designed park” where guests can interact with hosts, lifelike machines with their own personalities and backstories.

Each guest is presented with various storylines, from hunting bandits to saving a damsel in distress. However, the story truly begins when the park’s hosts start contemplating their existence, leading to a full-blown rebellion against humans.

Season 3 of Westworld will be available in 2020 on HBO.

Good Omens

This mini-series is an adaptation of the book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. All six episodes will be released on Amazon Prime on May 31, with a weekly release on BBC Two to follow.

Good Omens follows the story of angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tennant) as they team up to stop the end of times, brought on by Antichrist.

With a star-studded supporting cast that includes Jon Hamm, Benedict Cumberbatch, Frances McDormand and plethora of Queen songs, this dark comedy is not one to miss.

Welcome to The Good Place, where everything is fine. Except it is not, at least for Eleanor Shellstrop, who has done a lot of bad things on Earth and knows that she does not belong in the Good Place.

With the help of her soulmate Chidi, Eleanor learns how to be a better person so that the demigod Michael doesn’t find out about who she really is and kick her out to the bad place.

The Good Place has a particular brand of comedy that is intelligent without being pretentious, bringing ethics and philosophy to the masses with each episode. To skip the lengthy elaboration, you can check this episode highlight depicting the infamous trolley problem.

Season 4 of The Good Place will air this year on NBC.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Following the life of 16-year-old witch Sabrina, this show may on the surface seem like it’s intended for younger audiences. But this dark adaptation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch takes magic to a whole new, frightening level with plenty of nefarious spells, a host of ghouls and demons, devil worship and even cannibalism.

But tongue-in-cheek praising of “the dark lord” aside, one of the highlights of the show is its take on religion, which encourages viewers to question the consequences of blind devotion.

The first two seasons of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are available on Netflix.
