Jon Snow (Kit Harington) appeared to be dead at the end of “Game of Thrones” Season 5, but he was brought back to life in the sixth season, then won the “Battle of the Bastards,” and was proclaimed King in the North. Harington earned his first ever Emmy nomination last year as Best Drama Supporting Actor. But with an even bigger seventh season and cliffhanger Harington, like his character, should be promoted to the lead actor race at the upcoming 2018 Golden Globes. Below are the Top 4 reasons why Harington should go lead.
1. Ice and Fire
The official anthology title for “Game of Thrones” is “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Harington (ice) and Emilia Clarke (fire) met for the first time in the seventh season, with their storylines merging together. Since they’re appearing in longer consecutive scenes and symbolize George R.R. Martin series as a whole, it only makes sense for the man at the center of the action to be promoted. 2. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
When Harington joined Peter Dinklage as a nominee at the 2016 Emmys Coster-Waldau was again left on the sidelines. If Harington should be promoted to the lead race it would potentially open up a spot for Coster-Waldau to finally get some recognition for his conflicted performance as Jamie Lannister.

3. Jon’s lineage
At the end of the seventh season the major mystery around Jon Snow’s lineage was answered, but there was a twist as he’s not a bastard but the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. No single character has had more buzz or fan theories than Harington. Jon Snow’s lineage will be a major storyline for the final season and it only makes sense for the man at the center of the action to be in the lead race.
4. The Emmys are Cool Now
At the 2017 Emmys we saw a “cool factor” take effect like we’ve never seen before with Donald Glover (“Atlanta”), Alexander Skarsgard (“Big Little Lies”) and Riz Ahmed (“The Night Of”) among the winners. That could help someone like Harington not only get nominated but potentially take the prize. Who’s been cooler or more buzzed about or had more articles written about him than Jon Snow?
“Game of Thrones” should at least attempt putting Harington in the lead category at the Golden Globes where the show has only picked up one win for Dinklage (2012) and one nomination for Headey (2017). They’ve really got nothing to lose as the Globes voters have never really embraced the show. Should he score a nomination or even win, it would prove he belongs in the lead category at the 2018 Emmys.
