Hollywood and society are both harder on women than men, especially women not in their 20's anymore. I'm sort of upset with the tone of this clip. Particularly insensitive to be narrated by a man. And also, Freedom Writer's wasn't a mediocre movie, folks just weren't ready to give an award to a movie about Black people trudging out of the trenches a becoming successful.

P.S. I Love You I thought was one of Hilary Swank's best. She was amazing in that movie. Hollywood shouldn't have given up on her. She's still got potential.

Here’s the reason plain and simple: She’s not pretty enough. Don’t get me wrong, she looks fine. And she is one of my favorite actresses. She won for two films where she gave beyond amazing performances. Like, better than Meryl performances. But the reason she’s not a main stay in Hollywood is bc she’s just not pretty enough. I personally like her look but she’s not conventionally pretty.

Many people brought up the fact that she looks like Jennifer Garner and Julia Roberts. Garner is gorgeous but has severe limitations on acting ability. I used to love her in Alias and when she played Elektra. I’ve seen a bunch of her other movies. But rewatching Alias, I see a lot of her limitations. She’s good but not that good. Not Lena Olin good (who played her mom). She played Elektra well, but the new actress for Elektra in the Netflix Daredevil series puts Garner’s performance to shame.

Now let’s look at Julia. Julia is what Hollywood would consider the best of both worlds. She is conventionally pretty (not as pretty as Garner IMO) but she’s also a stellar actress. Her best performance to me was in Charlie Wilson’s War (not many people saw this). She can act circles around Garner. Erin Brockovich was her Oscar win but her performance in that cannot touch either of Hillary’s performances. Julia owes a lot of her success to her looks. Although I must say, Julia was amazing in Closer, something Garner could never pull off.

she might make a good female vulcan in a star trek movie or tv show. She has the facial structure for it.

The question is, "Is she hot?" not "Would I do her?".

Really like her. Loved her in " The Gift " wonderful movie. Great cast.

Deserved the win for Boys Don't Cry. There's no way in hell she was as good as Imelda Staunton in Vera Drake in 2004, and that's who should have won that year, and who would have won, had Eastwood not moved up the release date for Million Dollar Baby at the last moment, as it was to be released in February of 2005.  Staunton had won all of the important critics awards, although to be fair, Swank tied with her for the NSOFC award. Also, it didn't hurt that Oscar felt it owed Eastwood, who had just been run over by Peter Jackson the year before when Mystic River was up for Oscars.

She's a really good actress and a relatively good person, that's probably why.
