Since swords are often not as impressively devastating in tests on armor and skull analogs as axes and blunt weapons tend to be, you might wonder why they were so important throughout history. So in this video I’m giving you my interpretation, based on historical martial arts and related sources, and my personal experience with reproductions of these weapons.

  1. As for blunt impact targets, really anywhere in the head / shoulder girdle area can be incapacitating, especially on their dominant side . Even if not, you try using or even holding a shield with a separated shoulder or broken collarbone. You might be able to keep it pinned to your body somehow if you're an absolute beast, but not actively block. also hits to unprotected joints, spine, ribs (especially on the right side) Honestly its not much different from sword targets in number

  2. I guess it's similar to how a crossbow could be fired effectively by just about anyone, so it was a great weapon to give to untrained militia or even peasants. I guess… I mean anyone can use an axe or a mace.

  3. YOUTUBE HAS DEMONETIZED YOU??? FUCK'S SAKE YOU TALK ABOUT FUCKING SWORDS AND SHIT!!! When the fuck was the last time someone committed a mass murder with a fucking SWORD??? jesus christ.

  4. I wish I had money to support the Patreon or even some other way of donation, but the way YouTube is treating you sucks man. As the gentleman in another comment said, great intro. Although you shouldn't need to get sponsored, the fact of how you went about the intro was great. A skip time stamp and a pretty good synapses of the game. Well done. Same goes for the video, great content as always!

  5. Great video Skall.
Sword is often the better choice. Not on plate armor . But maybe the gaps of it.

And also, an opponent can grab the handle of the mace or axe . Not a good situation. It will be a wrestle where the more stronger guy takes over.

  6. What about extremely close quarters fighting? It occurs to me that if you get forced into very close combat, you have more options with a sword, and almost none with a mace or an axe, especially if you're fighting in a military context in close formation. Maces and axes require room to swing, swords, even longswords, can be used to stab at medium to close range, with halfswording. I'm pretty sure this is why legionnaires used swords with the scutum and not maces and axes.

  7. I really liked you. Even that much, that i could have watched over you sometimes obviously making a advertisement-show.  Even though that´s beyond what i would allow to myself, i accepted, that in your opinion and from your point of view, there must be a force to do it. But standing there in front of hundres of thousands, first yustifing why, then talking about a profitable strategy-mobile-game is a great shame. You cant take that back, but you could quit it without any proudness.
