Mr Robot season 3 episode 5 is one of the most exciting and interesting episodes to date. S3 E5 is almost one continuous shot where we first follow Elliot, and then we follow Angela. There is some editing involved of course but the one-shot feel adds a level of tension and paranoia to one of the third season’s best episodes.
In the fifth episode of Mr Robot’s third season we watch Elliot Alderson scramble to stay ahead of the Dark Army as they try to implement stage 2. Angela is one of his best childhood friends and someone he trusts, but as viewers we know that she is working against him. His sister Darlene Alderson has also betrayed him working for the FBI, but her motivation is to take the blame for the five/nine hack off Elliot and put it on Tyrell Wellick.
Series creator and director Sam Esmail puts together an episode like we’ve never seen in Mr Robot season 3 e5. It is a wild ride where it looks like Whiterose and her Dark Army emerge victorious at the end.
Tell us what you think about Mr. Robot season 3 episode 5 in the comments, and if you think stage 2 is going to be successful.

Honestly this was a cinematic masterpiece. One of the greatest TV episodes I have ever seen
I didn't realize it was single take I was so caught up in this episode
It cant be a drug to bring mr robot back cause angela and even tyrell wouldnt tell dark army about the 2 sites of elliot
Great vid, bounced on my boys femtocell to this for hours.
Why did you call out the writer of this episode? What else has she written ? @pete peppers
Keep up the analysis! I'll be subscribing
Amazing breathtaking episode. fucking masterpiece
I hated this episode, it was too confusing as to what was going on and it got boring after a while.
You mention that when Elliot is in the elevator he knows he'll not be able to make it to the HSM, but if I'm not mistaken, he never knew about the HSM task at all. Angela even later mentions to Irving on the phone that she's the one in the HSM room because she couldn't find Elliot in the chaos of the riot.
What do you think Angela's motives are? It seems her and Elliot's motives should be similar given the situation with both their parents and the Washington Township plant. However, her actions seem to be directed towards Elliot's demise.
As for the single camera, I agree that they can often feel forced or drawn out, but I feel this episode and show in general does an amazing job of using single-camera scenes to increase the immersion and suspense. It really feels like we're watching from the perspective of the character that is being followed, rather than a third-person depiction.
This episode was worldclass. Everything was on point: the visuals; the score; the chaos; the acting.. just a masterpiece.
I laughed so hard when the old lady who's PC Elliot wanted to use schooled him on all the security measures she took… I think Mr. Robot is the bomb – literally and figuratively 😉
I liked this episode a lot too. Off topic – how come in the USA we can't access your last week/episode review S03E04? Just curious as I got to it late. Or is it just me?
this was the best episode so far imo!
I thought this episode pretty much fixed Angela as a persona of Mr Robot. Then again I've pegged Darlene and Tyrell in that boat as well, so maybe I'm looking for too many splits.
If the bomb does go off, aren't they gonna be suspicious as to how Elliot knew that it was gonna go off?
Best episode of season 3
where is the episode 4 recap?
this was just a mind blowing episode & well executed just wow!!!
wheelbarrow bbq guy has been in like 3 or 4 episodes now haha i think hes important and also we havent seen leon and what happened with him and the 2 other people
I feel like angela was portrayed much smarter than in previous seasons.. i feel like the back up she did in the USB isnt what the dark army wants.. i have a hunch she's double crossing them.. maybe she'll stop stage 2 herself..
Price's absence all season has me wondering now.
Thrilling episode. Although, I have to say, the beginning where Eliott bluffed his way into staying as long as possible was truly painful. When he told his coworker how he really felt when he coworker talked about his life I thought I would die.
Also, I don’t know that I like Angela anymore. She seems so cold blooded now. That poor woman who accidentally encountered her.
Awesome episode. The single take reminded me of the Mexican border opening of Better Call Saul a year or so ago. Loved it
Ummmmm………… Again too much hype for nothing…… Smh
absolute wow episode – I didn't know I can hold my breath for nearly 60 minutes. Thanks for the review!
Rami Malek is a great actor, Portia Doubleday is a great actress & Sam Esmail is a great director !
amazing man keep up 🙂
I loved this episode, just based on how the episode was filmed, that alone made it amazing. Loved the 'single'take and loved the suspense, honestly one of the greatest episode is this show
haha, how could any critic say this episode was bad?!?!
fwiw and I realize many already know it… but this was in part a major homage to DePalma… the creep through the walls and interior/exterior from Scarface, for example… and Snake Eyes above all.
Phil Glass’ Einstein On The Beach seemed to be intercut with some Mac Quayle music as well… I could swear I also heard Terry Riley but maybe that was part of the Glass material, idk
This was the best
Angela gave the keys back to the dark army so they can hack the batteries. Dark army still needs to hack the server to blow up the building. Also. It was not one shot as lighting was impossible to do in real time.
I love how EP 5 was shot. I tried not to blink for an hour or so. Of course, one wouldn’t want or need to shoot EVERY episode like this pseudo-one shot, but it served it’s purpose for this particular moment in the story. It created a lot more tension than it otherwise would have and why bounce around between shots when there’s nothing to bounce around to?
Nice breakdown of the episode as usual. 👍🏼😎
