Happy Guru Tips Tuesday! Today we have such an exciting video, with a very special guest, Darren Darnborough from We Rehearse, an amazing free website that allows actors to make money by being a reader for other actors!. Today we have a part 1 of a 2-part video series on how to rock your self-tapes and show you how to impress the casting director… without even needing to be in the room! So much casting is done off tape now, so this is definitely a skill to have, and a video you don’t want to miss!

Now I want to hear from you! Tell us something you’re going to implement in your next self tape! Share in the comments below! (did we mention we give away prizes to commenters every Tuesday?!)

Until I book any work, is it recommended that I fill my website with self taped auditions?
Thanks so much! What kind of camera would you recommend, on a low budget, and what kind of mic? I tried using my ipad, but the end result was very grainy. The sound was good, though. A lot of cameras I'm finding on Amazon, BestBuy etc don't have good sound according to the reviews. (at least those in my budget!)
Or, just ignore all of this and still get yourself a part on Game Of Thrones 😉 http://youtu.be/XEa-6Vyw-zc #GoT
Dumb question, I know…but if you're self taping on your phone, what do you connect the external mic to? Do you just use a headset sized mic and connect it to the phone?
Good video with good info. The only thing I'd love more detail is on lighting. When Darren speaks of studio lighting what does this mean? What size? How many stands? I have a small LED lighting kit with stand that works well for sitting at a desk. But if I need to stand and my only option is a small area with little to no natural lighting what specifically are my options, what is the average cost, and where would I find such equipment? Also do you recommend body mics?
