Luke Skywalker dies at the end, well kinda he becomes a force ghost, not because he is killed he is using the force to project himself to buy time for the resistance to get away, and that kills him.

It wasn't a remake of the Empire Strikes Back, I'll give you that, but it was pretty close to Return of The Jedi, don't you think ?
