Let's recap the main players from this episode:

Sam – on his way (with Gilly and Baby Sam) from The Wall to the Citadel to become a maester;
Stannis – dead, after seeing his only daughter burned alive, his wife's suicide, and most of his men deserted;
Margaery/Loras Tyrell – both arrested and awaiting trial; still imprisoned at the Sept of Baelor;
Cersei – humiliated/shamed and paraded naked through the streets of King's Landing; under house arrest and awaiting trial;
Jaime – on his way back from Dorne, with his dead daughter Myrcella;
Tyrion – in Meereen with Varys, but Daenerys has flown away on Drogon and abandoned the city;
Daenerys – is rescued from the Sons of the Harpy, but finds herself in an unknown land surrounded by hordes of Dothraki;
Arya – in Braavos; she kills Ser Meryn Trant, is chastised by Jaqen H'ghar for taking "the wrong life", and she is struck blind;
Sansa – tries to escape from Ramsay by jumping off the wall with Theon at Winterfell; their fate is currently unknown;
Jon – dead, killed as a traitor by The Night's Watch for bringing the wildlings into Castle Black.

So basically the main characters are traveling, dead, imprisoned, humiliated, betrayed, abandoned, lost, blind, falling, and dead respectively. Good times!! Bring on the Season 6 reactions!!

Just a little background – the last published book also ended with Jon Snow's death, so starting with season six for the first time it was all new territory for both show watchers AND book readers. Imagine waiting to see what happens next (a matter of months for show watchers, but a matter of YEARS for book readers!)
