Here is my video discussing some of the rather unique theories out there on the birth and upbringing of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire.

Also, here is a forum post discussing the issue of Braavos & the Lemon Tree in ASoIaF with some more facts I didn’t present in this video but ABSOLUTELY merit consideration:

  1. Dany being Rhaegar's daughter by his first wife (or ashara)….a dornish princess would mirror Nymeria. Dany going to westeros by boat to conquer it and those boats get burned as well. Nymeria 2.0 opposing an Aegon 2.0 who is trying to unite westeros behind him. Dany's personality also feels dornish…she is unbend unbroken and the unburned. Dorne hiding both lyanna/jon and hiding dany seems logical as well. Rhaegar could have known what would happen and protected the dragon heads. Both his wives being in on it, and both just try to protect their kid. It would explain why Jon was called Aegon as well. And yes people at Dragonstone said they witnessed her birth, but Rhaenys was born there as well and must have been no more then 3 years old. They could have lied to protect her.

  2. How come dany says that jon is too small for me and why is there age difference shown between them…bcoz dany was born in the end of the Robert's rebellion and same was john snow in the tower of joy son of lyanna and rhaegar….
    Pls. Give me your views.

  3. The fuck? Who the fuck comes with these idiotic theories? Jesus! The last thing these idiots need to theorize is that Danny is not a targaryen at all even thou she clearly has targaryan dragon blood running through her veins 🙄

  4. I think that Dany is Ned's daughter with Ashara. It would be so symmetrical… Jon being a dragon raised as a wolf and Dany being a wolf raised as a dragon. Both children of Ice and Fire…. If you look carefully the long walk promo Jon's walk takes him from Ice to Fire (we see him first under a blue light and in the end sitting on his throne with fire behind him) and Dany's from Fire to Ice (we see her first through fire and in the end she sits on her throne and her background is white as ice)

  5. Rheagar and Ashara are dany's parents. Lived in drone, Asharas still born baby is actually Dany. Barristan seamy says Dany has her eyes, rheagar and authur Dayne were best friends. Rheagar Sleeping with his best friend sister seems right up martins writing style. Ned goes to star fall after tower of joy and realized that Dany would be slaughtered if Robert found out. Being that he loved Ashara he told her to take Dany and he will say she committed suicide to protect them. Quaithe is Ashara (dany's mother) watching over her

  6. There are other things about Dany which appear to be contradictory. Firstly, everything she knows about her past comes from Viserys, and I'm wondering how accurate they are. Viserys was not the character with the highest intellect. There are indications that they have not actually been brought up together. For instance, Dany speaks fluent High Valyrian, while Viserys can't understand a word of it. Dany quickly embraced the Dothraki, their customs and learned their language. Viserys hated the Dothraki, called them "savages", and would not even wear the new clothes Dany had for him because they were in the Dothraki style. His behaviour on one occasion was sufficiently bad for the Dothraki to make him walk behind the Khalasar. I don't believe Dany and Viserys were brought up together as small children – so what has been going on? I read a theory that the Dany we see in the show is not really Dany – some Redditors think she is a random child who happened to have the relevant Targaryen looks to be substituted as a Targaryen princess. I find this a little absurd – yet she actually knows nothing about her past, except what Viserys has told her – but we know Viserys was not the most trustworthy person. Quaithe knows the truth – she told Dany once, "The Dragons know – do you?" – so what do the dragons know that Dany doesn't?

  7. It just occured to me now that I am almost certain Jon Snow will plunge his sword in to Dany's heart and it will come out on fire. I mean that literally.

He, the son of ice, will take the fire from Dany, whether or not he does it on purpose I'm not so sure.

  8. the part of the books that throws me the most about dany's birth are the thoughts, dreams, and actions of ned stark in book one, before his death. he keeps thinking of a promise unfulfilled, and doesn't seem to be referring to jon as it is at a time when he is adamantly fighting for dany's life to be spared by robert. there are no worries about jon. i think this has some significance, whether it is because dany is really lyana's, or because lyana asked ned to protect the other future remaining targaryan other than jon.

  9. The overall problem with all of these theories involves the motive for the deception. With R+L=J, the motive was clearly to protect the bastard (or legitimate son if R & L had a secret wedding) of Rhaergar Targaryan from Robert's wrath. If R+L=J & D were true, why was Jon's Targaryan kept secret and Danny's announced to the world?

The counter argument of her Targaryan features may be somewhat valid, but still why lie about the parentage? What advantage is there to have Danny be the daughter of Aegon instead of Rhaegar?

Without a motive for the lineage, the rest makes no difference. Additionally, the legend of her birth, an event that even Tyrion described back to her, is another issue to deal with. Normally, when there are apocryphal accounts of someone's birth, it happens after the person has taken power in order to add additional legitimacy of the rule. When Danny was born, she was not significant other than as a pawn to ally her brother to retake the iron throne.

If the legend of her birth were faked up for some reason, there would not have been any need for it to be disseminated until after Viserys had died. Also, speaking of Viserys, he was old enough to remember Rhaegar, and was present at Danny's birth. Why would be be complicit in a lie about the circumstances of her birth? Viserys was next in line to the throne regardless of who Danny's father was. There was just no point to the lie.

  10. I personally think R + L = D is right. and if you recall the fact that Viserys is still angry with Dany for killing their mother at birth and her body dissapearing in the storm, wouldn't it be possible for Ashara or Allyria Dayne to switch Dany (a then couple months old baby) with the dead or dissapeared targaryan baby?
The size of a ,say 6 month old baby wouldn't matter for Viserys since he is only 8 years old and probably has never seen a baby.
For the Martells, Bravoosi, and merchants it probably wasn't hard for Lady Dayne to convince the of the importance of Rheagars only heir (She is a Targaryan and they got paid, nuff said there…. )..

With this baby swap she could have had a happy childhood in Bravos. because the Daynes and targaryans were to really rich houses i believe some money and a bit of Dornish Targaryan loyalty would make it possible for all of Dany's memories to be true, the timeline issue more or less restored, and maybe the dark eyebros in the series XD

Please give me your opinion on this theory, i would like to learn more and discuss my opinions!

  11. The thing about Ashara and Dany looking the same isn't strong at all because House Dayne has Valyarian blood so it would make sense that they would look similar without having and blood relations.

  12. Or lemons represent what they represent anyways. Daenerys and Sansa both had peaceful, happy and prosperous childhood until shit happened and their father/guardian died and life gave them the metaphorical lemons they so loved when they were on the tree outside their window and in their cakes.

  13. Yes, I confirm that 8 year olds can remember the birth of their siblings. I was 7,5 when my sister was born and I definitely remember my mom being pregnant and visiting the baby in the hospital.

  14. I still think Ned and Ashara are Jon Snows parents and Lyanna and Rhaegar are Danaerys. Having read the books and watched the TV show religiously the evidence is flimsy for R+L=J people just always jump on it.

  15. I like your video but you need to work on your pronunciation of some names. Quaithe does not have an "e" sound at the end of her name (kway th, not kwayth-ee). Nor does Melisandre (-druh, not -dree). Otherwise your coverage of the theories is non-biased and thorough.

  16. I think a pretty good indicator that these theories are junk comes from the fact that David Benioff said that Dany is Aerys' daughter on inside the episode. Seems set in stone to me, but maybe everything everyone says are lies and dany is the nights king and has ruled westeros the whole time — Big twist!!

  17. .R+D= makes sense… but i think is way cooler if J is the revelation, cause D, already has done a lot of crazy shit, and if you compared the two… i think D is a lot stronger than J.
    For now

  18. ""In autumn, Braavos generally knows three types of weather: fog, rain, and freezing rain."" = it says in autumn not whole year whole seasons! ""There are no trees to be found within the city except in the courts and gardens of the mighty""= So there are trees in courts and gardens of mighty in Bravos! ""There are a lot of pine trees in Bravos and it is illegal to cut them."" = so there are Trees in Bravos. R+L=D theory supported by non lemon tree existence in Bravos is hard to believe. If I accept that Danny had a false information about where they had been for 5 years. My question is why , what is the point? Why lie to a 5 years old girl about the name of the place? Better lie her about her real identity. Wasted lies.

  19. It seems clear in the show it's R+L=J and Daenerys is the Mad King's youngest. But why does Ned get so angry with Robert, when talks of killing Daenerys?

R+L=J just seems too convenient and easy, for the it to be true in the books
