Game Of Thrones season seven came to a spectacular conclusion with The Dragon And The Wolf, but we might need to treasure and endlessly re-watch those scenes for some time.
When is The Walking Dead back on TV?
While the release date of season 8 is still up in the air, it’s looking like HBO could potentially delay airing episodes until 2019 due to the ‘complicated’ production schedules the show now requires.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, sources have claimed production on the eighth season is set to begin in October and will run as late as August 2018 – which could push the return of the final six episodes into 2019.
This would be the longest gap there’s ever been between seasons, with the recent season seven only being delayed by a few months from early 2017 to a summer release date.
HBO is neither confirming or denying expanding Game Of Thrones production beyond the usual four or five months, but HBO programming boss Casey Bloys has described how David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s vision for the final season is proving a complex issue.
Speaking to THR, Casey said: ‘Our production people are trying to figure out a timeline for the shoot and how much time the special effects take.
‘The shooting is complicated enough – on different continents, with all the technical aspects – and the special effects are a whole other production period that we’re trying to figure out. That is a big factor in all of this.’
The also teased how the show could follow in Westworld’s steps by taking a longer break between seasons, adding: ‘As shows get bigger and more complicated, I have to follow the producers’ lead and let go of, “It’d be nice to have it every year.”
‘They have to do the best show they can do. With bigger shows like Westworld or Game Of Thrones, sometimes if you want the big show and the big scope, it takes longer.’
HBO are however at least attempting to fill the gaping void in our lives, launching documentary spin-off Game Revealed which goes behind-the-scenes on the latest season across six episodes.
That’ll do, for now.
