A few months back, Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) talked about the emotional experience of reading the scripts for the final season of Game of Thrones alongside the rest of the cast and crew. “[I]t was really bittersweet,” she said. “It was hard. At the end of the very last script, they read aloud, ‘End of Game of Thrones.’ As soon as they read that out, pretty much everyone burst into tears. There was a standing ovation for [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss]. We were all clapping and cheering. It was amazing.”
If reading the end was that emotional, imagine how filming it must feel. That’s the sense some fans are getting from a tweet Turner sent out earlier today. Judge for yourself:
Is Turner turning talking about the mixed emotions she inevitably feels on her final day of shooting a show she’s been on since she was 13? Or is this completely unrelated? Like, maybe she was about to take a bite of a delicious sandwich but then dropped it and watch the meat separate from the bread separate from the cheese; it can never be put back together again, but it was beautiful while it lasted.
If today was Turner’s last day of shooting on Game of Thrones, we’d like to caution fans against jumping to the conclusion that Sansa dies in season 8. Different cast members will finish filming at different times; that’s just the way production works, and shooting on season 8 has already gone on for longer than past seasons. As far as we can tell it, it’s gonna wrap up in June. If what remains is mostly battle stuff, Turner likely wouldn’t have been involved in it, anyway.
Or not. It’s all speculation at this point. What do you think?
In other news, we continue to catch sight of cast members in Seville, near the Dragonpit set. Here’s Kit Harington signing autographs in a conspicuous fashion:
A couple newbies have arrived on the scene, including Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm)…
…and Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy), who’s been sighted by multiple people. According to Los Siete Reinos, Whelan posted photographic proof of her presence to Instagram, but since deleted it.
In any case, with these two in the mix, it’s just easier to list the cast members who haven’t been sighted in Seville: Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Jerome Flynn (Bronn), Anton Lesser (Qyburn), Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (the Mountain), Hannah Murray (Gilly), Rory McCann (the Hound), Daniel Portman (Podrick Payne), Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane), Richard Dormer (Beric Dondarrion), Carice van Houten (Melisandre), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), and Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy).
And there’s time yet. The work continues.
