If like us you’ve dreamed of ruling over an exile of Westeros as if you were the Lord of Riverrun in Game of Thrones, now you actually can – and for less than a one bedroom flat in London, which for all Londoners is almost certainly going to be the most insulting thing you’ll hear all week.
Gosford Castle in Northern Ireland’s County Armagh, the very castle HBO used to stand in for Riverrun, is up on the market – well, a big chunk of it at least, and for a very modest £500,000.
Should one come to own their very own piece of Westeros history, they’ll be able to proudly brag to guests: ‘This is the very spot where Robb Stark beheaded the traitor Richard Karstark,’ which is lovely.
The castle has been divide into several sections, with one wing, so-to-speak, auctioned off just last month. Now another massive area of the castle is being sold off by Gosford Castle Development Limited, and has been split up into six luxury apartments – the Inner Bailey, the Great Hall, the Old Keep, the Dining Room House, the Library Wing and the Round Tower.
Each flat includes at least two bedrooms and boasts an average of 3,500 square feet. And you can have them all.
Since being built in the mid-1800s for the 2nd Earl of Gosford, the castle has become a public document storage facility, it was used as barracks in World War II and later stood as a hotel.
As for Game of Thrones, the fantasy epic finally wrapped up filing earlier this month and in less than a year’s time will become as much as a part of history as the castles which starred in it.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic in April 2018.
