Game of Thrones writer and producer Bryan Cogman, who, besides showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, has been with the show since its humble beginnings, has just signed an overall deal with media titan Amazon. According to Entertainment Weekly, the deal is for Cogman to create new content.

Cogman, an Emmy-winning scriptwriter has written several episodes of Game of Thrones, including — among others — episode 104, “Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things,” episode 203, “What is Dead May Never Die,” episode 305, “Kissed by Fire,” episode 404, “Oathkeeper,” episode 506, “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken,” episode 606, “Blood of My Blood,” and episode 702, “Stormborn.” His writing credits will include episodes from the eighth and final season of the show, as well.

Co-Head Television of Amazon Studios Albert Cheng sang Cogman’s praises in a statement: “We’re proud to be in business with Bryan, who has written some of the most memorable and exhilarating television in recent history,” he said. “His storytelling prowess is undeniable, and we cannot wait to introduce his voice to our Prime Video audience.”

In his own statement, Cogman said, “I couldn’t be more thrilled and honored to start the next phase of my career with Amazon. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to start writing.”

This a great move by Amazon, who is looking to take a larger bite out of streaming market, especially with Game of Thrones ending in 2019. Recently, the company invested $1 billion into a Lord of the Rings series, with Star Trek: Beyond writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay helming the script.

Cogman’s next projects include Disney’s remake of The Sword in the Stone, for which he already wrote the script, and The Haunted Mansion. Sounds like he’s going to be very busy for the foreseeable future.
