I feel very confident saying that Richard Madden was robbed of any singular recognition during his tenure on Game of Thrones. As Robb Stark, he consistently gave a strong and emotional performance, all of which culminated to the devastating Red Wedding.

Well, more than five years later, Madden has finally gotten the attention he deserves. His new BBC/Netflix thriller series Bodyguard earned two Golden Globe nominations this morning starting with Best Actor in a Drama for Madden and a nomination in the coveted Best Drama Series category.

“I’m just blown away. I never expected to get a nomination or anything like that. It seemed so far away and foreign to me. I’m thrilled for everybody who is involved in the show. To have the globes acknowledge and recognize that is mind-blowing. I’m still trying to catch up to the fact that it’s real,” Madden told EW after the nominations.

Bodyguard, which currently holds a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, follows Madden as war veteran David Budd, a police sergeant with London’s Metropolitan Police Service, in the Royalty and Specialist Protection branch. He’s assigned to protect the home secretary, the Rt. Hon. Julia Montague MP, a controversial and ambitious politician who has plans to introduce invasive new surveillance powers for security forces. Finding himself increasingly at odds with Montague’s policies and personality, in addition to dealing with the physical and psychological scars from his time in Afghanistan, Budd is torn between both his beliefs and his duty to protect.
