We all remember the Red Wedding in Game Of Thrones, which saw the savage murder of both Robb Stark and his pregnant wife Talisa.

While Lord Walder raised a toast to Robb (played by Richard Madden), his mother Catelyn was quickly figuring out that they’d been duped.

But it was too late and the gathering turned into chaotic scenes after Lothar Frey repeatedly stabbed the soon-to-be-mother in the stomach.

Not only did this kill her unborn child, but the wounds were fatal, and while Robb held his dying wife in his arms, he too was brutally murdered by Roose Bolton.

Despite the cast putting on their cast acting their way through the scene, it turns out their tears were real, as Talisa star Oona Chaplin recalled being told to stop crying.

When chatting to Entertainment Weekly, the 32-year-old spoke about how she couldn’t help but sob during her death scene.

She told the publication: ‘I was actually crying while I was dead. The director had to come over: “Oona, you need to stop crying, dead people don’t cry. You’re dead, just be dead.”’

Showrunner David Benioff added: ‘I remember turning to the to the script supervisor after one take where Richard was dying and I was like, “That was a good take.” And she was just bawling.

‘It’s a bittersweet thing. You’re making all these people sad. But on the other hand, that’s kind of the idea.’

He continued: ‘If we shot The Red Wedding and nobody got emotional, it would be a failure.’

And it seems she wasn’t the only one who couldn’t control her emotions, as director David Nutter revealed the hair and makeup team were also in tears.

He said: ‘I remember hearing people crying, and it was the hair and makeup people. I thought, “If we can make ourselves feel something while making it, then this will translate.”’

Both Richard and Oona’s GOT journey may have come to an end, but the remaining characters still have a whole season to go.

The trailer for the final season was launched on Tuesday, providing a first real glimpse at what fans can expect when the show returns in late April.

And according to HBO, the anticipation is real because it was viewed an incredible 81 million times across all platforms (including YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter).

Game Of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on 15 April.
