George RR Martin has come to save us from our Game Of Thrones final season blues, updating fans that three spin-offs are still in the works.

We have been well and truly blessed.

The author, who wrote the A Song Of Ice And Fire novels which later got adapted into the HBO series, updated fans in a blog post titled ‘Stuff and Nonsense.’

Urging fans ‘don’t believe everything you read,’ the 70-year-old explained: ‘We have had five different GAME OF THRONES successor shows in development (I mislike the term “spinoffs”) at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely.

‘The one I am not supposed to call THE LONG NIGHT will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer.

‘What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of FIRE & BLOOD and come up with your own theories.’

Penned by screenwriter Jane Goldman and Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin, the untitled prequel takes place thousands of years before the main show’s events.

An official synopsis for the series reads: ‘Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game Of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age Of Heroes into its darkest hour.

‘And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.’

Doctor Who and Life On Mars star John Simm recently joined the cast, alongside Marquis Rodriguez (When They See Us) and Richard McCabe (Wallander, The Duchess).

We’ll be needing this immediately, please.

However, before then, we’ve got to make it to the end of the final season, and Jon Snow actor Kit Harington has teased that it’s not going to be a smooth journey.

While we thought we’d seen enough horrors in the Battle Of Winterfell, Kit described the next episode as ‘twisted and uncomfortable.’

Oh, good.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the 32-year-old said: ‘One of my favourite episodes is four because the characters have seemingly got what they needed.

‘The world is safe now. They’re celebrating and saying goodbye to lost friends. But as an audience you’re going, “This is only episode four, something’s going to happen.”

‘And that’s the cool thing because I think the characters are aware of this as well. There’s something twisted and uncomfortable about it. It’s so Shakespearian.’

We’re not prepared.

Game Of Thrones continues Sundays on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
