The Night King is dead. Westeros is at peace.

Just kidding. Hard as it is to believe, we’re still just shy of halfway through the final season of Game of Thrones, and now that the Big Popsicle has bit it, the question becomes: what does the show do with its final three episodes, all of which are roughly as long as “The Long Night”? Let’s see if we can glean anything from the trailer:

I know mileage will vary, but I love how bold the show was in killing off the Night King with time to spare. A lot of us thought the endgame was going to be about facing down the Night King and the army of the dead, but no! By the looks of it, the show will return to talk of alliances and deals and good old fashioned human malice.

Speaking of, does Cersei have what it takes to fight Daenerys and what remains of her armies? Her strategy of sitting out the Battle of Winterfell certainly seems to have paid off. And what about the tension between Jon and Dany? It was flaring up towards the end of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” but obviously they set it aside when the dead came calling. How about the rivalry between Dany and Sansa? Will Arya get some newfound respect after landing the killing blow on the Night King?
