We’re sad about the end too, Jon (Picture: HBO)

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll either be ecstatic to see what the characters end up doing, or gutted that you”ll never be able to see new shows again.

It certainly doesn’t feel like we’ve reached the finale – and many fans aren’t happy with the way the ending’s been dealt with – but we’re finally going to find out who take the Iron Throne.

It’s clear that writers have been tying up their loose ends, with a number of deaths occurring and main characters like Daenerys starting to unravel.

Let’s take a look at how far we’ve come this series, numbers-wise. We’ve also got the details on how to watch.

How many episodes have there been in season 8?

This final episode will be the sixth in this series. This is shorted than most seasons, which have consisted of ten episodes each (although the last had seven).

Season 8, episode 1 debuted on April 14 this year, and have continued to be aired weekly.

However, that adds up to 72 in total, which is quite a few hours of marathon time to get through if you haven’t seen it yet.

George R.R. Martin has written five books so far detailing the story of Westeros and its inhabitants’ struggle for power. There are also two more in the works, but given the last one (A Dance With Dragons) took six years, it may still be a while.

How to watch the finale in the UK

You’ll have to stay up late to catch it, as it doesn’t air on Sky Atlantic in the UK until 2am early Monday 20 May.

If you don’t have Sky Atlantic, Now TV will also be streaming the show (and they do free trials if you haven’t signed up yet).

Those who don’t have the stamina to stay up late (but do have the stamina to avoid spoilers all day) can catch it on Sky Atlantic at 9pm on Monday.
