Game Of Thrones sadly came to an end with the season eight finale airing just a few days ago and it seems there’s going to be a bit of a wait before the upcoming prequel hits our screens.

With fans hungry to know just where the HBO franchise will go next, programming president of the network Casey Bloys has revealed there might be years before the new series drops.

‘I don’t know,’ Casey admitted in reference to a release date for the new show.

‘I have to get a sense from production when we see scripts for a season, how big and involved it is.

‘Shooting a pilot in June and having it on the air a year later feels a little rushed, but it’s too soon to tell.’

Although the prequel seems like it’s going to be a while off, the wheels are already in motion and filming is due to begin soon.

Casey continued to Deadline: ‘The casting was completed a couple of weeks ago.

‘They are busy in Belfast prepping and getting ready to start shooting in a couple of weeks.’

Meanwhile, Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin has revealed that he’s got an impressive eight shows currently in development.

Although only a handful have direct links to Westeros, we’re beyond excited to see what becomes of them.

Spilling details on his blog, George wrote: ‘I’m still here, and I’m still busy.

‘As a producer, I’ve got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel.

‘I’m involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others.’

He continued: ‘There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced.’

Game Of Thrones is available for catch up on NOW TV.
