Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams have made no secret of their BFF status, and it turns out they were so close on the set of Game of Thrones, crewmembers thought they were actually a couple.

And they loved to play up to it.

Talking about their close relationship on Conan, Turner, who played Sansa Stark in the show, said: ‘We fully knew about it, we played into it.’

The actresses were quite happy to joke around on set and pretend to kiss when they were doing a scene (which is bizarre given that Sansa and Arya are, uh, sisters).

Turner continued: ‘So on the set we would kind of do the scene then try and kiss each other in the middle of the scene and see if anyone would react.

‘And it’s Game of Thrones so incest is so normal that they were like, “alright, that’s fine.” It was probably the most tame thing that happened on the show, actually.’

She cheekily added: ‘Sometimes you just wanna make out with your best friend.’

The pair, who often talk about one another in fond terms, had a ‘destructive’ friendship whilst filming the HBO series, Turner admitted.

Talking to Dr Phil on his show Phil in the Blanks, the actress, who recently got hitched in Las Vegas to Joe Jonas, said: ‘I have a friend, Maisie, who was on the show with me, she’s just a year younger than me and she and I were growing up together.

‘She was my best friend, and she was the only one I really told about all of it. Maisie and I used to do it [stay inside] together. I think being friends with each other was quite destructive because we were going through the same thing.’

The 23-year-old actress went on to talk about how the pair used to binge on food they bought in Tesco following filming. ‘We used to get home from set, go to a Tesco across the road, a little supermarket, and just buy food.

‘We’d go back to our room and eat it in bed. We never socialised for a couple of years. We didn’t socialise with anyone but ourselves.’
