Game of Thrones season finale saw Jon Snow (played by Kit Harrington) kill his lover Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) after she burned King’s Landing, causing the deaths of many soldiers and civilians alike.
Fans will remember her supporters began to turn against her after she became mad with power proving to be a dangerous leader.
However, Grey Worm and the rest of the Unsuilled were less than pleased when Jon kills their beloved Queen, and King Bran is forced to keep the peace and Exile Jon.
But as the last Targaryen who had just defeated a fatal threat to the Kingdom, why did Jon not become King over Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and rule as his other siblings did?
Despite Bran’s decision to banish his brother, Jon may have returned to The Wall to stay out of politics and let his brother rule which could have been foreshadowed in a historical clue.
Jon’s aversion to power may be history repeating itself, as fans will remember this is exactly what his great-great uncle Aemon Targaryen (Peter Vaughan) did.
Season one episode nine saw Aemon say “My brother reigned… when I refused the throne.”
Fans will rememberers ago Aemon was almost made King of Westerns but instead chose to join The Watch and to give up his reign so his brother Aegon V. could become King instead.
Perhaps Jon is staying at the Watch so his brother can become King and making another sacrifice for the good of the realm?
Moreover, Jon has wanted to be back on the Night’s Watch from the very beginning.

Early on in the series, Jon tells his uncle Benjamin he wants to join the Night’s Watch to escape the issues with his status.
The series portrayed Jon as a character who had felt like an outsider all his life, with no clear purpose.
The only family member he found acceptance with was Arya, (Maisie Williams) who left to travel, with no intention of returning.
Indeed in Jon’s final scene in season eight John and Arya see each other for the last time While he is being taken into exile by two wandering crows.
He says his goodbyes to his siblings at the docks and tells Arya that she could to visit him at Castle Black, but Arya states that she isn’t going back North and plans to explore the uncharted seas to the west of Westeros.
Therefore, with once again no purpose it is only natural for fans to see Jon return to the Night’s watch, the one place he belonged.
Moreover, it seems he had little family loyalty to fall back on after Sansa (Sophie Turner) used information given to her to manipulate situations so she would become the Queen in the North instead of Jon.
She told Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) about Jon’s true parentage to ensure he and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) could never be together as she was revealed to be his aunt.
Daenerys became paranoid those around her would want Jon on the Iron Throne and she’d lose everything she had worked so hard for.
By putting a wedge between the two, Sansa made sure Daenerys would go to the extreme to claim what she thought was hers resulting in Jon killing her, eradicating his claim to the throne.
