Following the news that one Game of Thrones spin-off prequel has officially wrapped filming on its pilot episode, it seems we’re now on the verge of getting another one – a dragon-centric one!

According to Deadline, HBO is close to ordering a pilot for a prequel series set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, charting the rise and fall of House Targaryen.

The new series, which is said to have been in the works at HBO since last autumn, will be based on George RR Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, and comes from both Martin and Colony co-creator Ryan Condal.

The author himself hinted towards this story on his blog back in May, also revealing that there are a total of five new Game of Thrones shows currently in the works.

“We have had five different Game of Thrones successor shows in development at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely,” he wrote.

“Two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer. What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of Fire & Blood and come up with your own theories.”

Game of Thrones aired on HBO in the US, and you can also catch up on the show via Hulu. Viewers in the UK can catch up via Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
