Game of Thrones introduced Tywin Lannister (played by Charles Dance) in season one as he was skinning a deer no less. He was part of the HBO show, having an intriguing storyline involving Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) Harrenhall, for four years. Tywin eventually exited in season four in quite a death scene.

The character met a memorable demise which will be forever the most comical deaths on Game of Thrones.

Tywin was murdered while on the toilet by his son Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) with a crossbow.

Tyrion also killed his lover Shae (Sibell Kikelli) after she lied about him at her trial and slept with Tywin.

He then fled King’s Landing for the warmer climes of Essos to try and win favour with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Speaking about his exit, Dance told the Radio Times: “I knew his demise was coming but I didn’t know how.

“I didn’t read the books. They are far too thick. They frighten me books that thick.

“And we weren’t shooting books we were shooting very good adaptations by David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss].

“There was a guy in the street who came up to me and said, ‘Game of Thrones, brilliant, you’ve got a great death scene’.

“And I said, ‘oh do I?’ and he told me the manner of my death so I went into Waterstones, got the book and saw, ahhh….. On the khazi. Right. OK. Suitable demise, I thought.”

Dance, it seems, exited because the series was following the George RR Martin novels with the scene straight from the pages of the books.

The star previously hinted in an interview with MTV that he could be returning.

He teased: “I’m not completely missing out on the next series. You haven’t seen the last of Tywin Lannister.”

However, the actor was referring to Tywin lying in state in the Sept of Baelor.

More recently, Dance opened about his feelings towards the controversial final series.

The British thespian admitted he was left “confused” by the story and how the show was brought to an end.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain back in May this year, he said: “I was confused. I have watched as much as I can because there are characters like Daenerys, her character, my character, we never met at all, so we would only meet at press junkets and things.

“I wanted to know what was happening to these characters…It got to the very end and I thought, ‘Hmm, ok.’

“There’s little Arya going off on a cruise somewhere, poor John’s gone back up North beyond the Wall.

“Then there is Tyrion, and all the people left alive are sat around the table. So well, what are we going to do now, shall we have a cup of tea or something?”

He added: “I thought, ‘Ah, I don’t know’.”
