Game Of Thrones star Rory McCann embarked on a diet of boiled eggs and chicken after learning that his character The Hound would have to go topless for the show.
Fellow cast member Maisie Williams revealed that the actor even gave up booze as part of his new fitness regime, however when it eventually came to filming the scene producers decided it wouldn’t make sense for the skilled Westeros fighter to have his shirt off.
‘There was a scene where The Hound got bitten and Arya offers to burn away the rotting flesh to make him better,’ Maisie began in the special reunion panel recorded for the new Blu-ray boxset.
‘And it said in the script The Hound was topless and so Rory had been on this crazy diet.’
Going into detail about Rory’s one-man mission to shape-up for the big reveal, Maisie continued: ‘He quit drinking and anyone who knows Rory knows that’s a big deal, and he quit smoking and he was just honestly just grumpy because he was eating just boiled eggs and chicken.
‘The funniest and best thing about it is when it came to shooting that scene they looked at the weather and said, “You know what, it’s a bit cold. It wouldn’t make sense you’d have your shirt off so perhaps you should just leave it on.”‘
‘And I’ve never been to the gym since and that’s the truth,’ Rory quipped. ‘F*** you, that’s it,’
Maisie laughed: ‘I think he actually cracked open a beer onset which was just hilarious.’
‘I did. I never stopped drinking,’ Rory added.
‘And then that night I saw you drinking a pint of in and tonic,’ she continued.
Iconic.
The Blu-ray boxset has been filled with little gems from the Game Of Thrones cast, including Maisie cringing as she’s confronted with some old behind-the-scenes footage.
Meanwhile, in the When Winter Falls DVD, Kit Harington made it no secret that he was really annoyed that Jon Snow wasn’t the one to kill the Night King in the Battle of Winterfell.
Game Of Thrones: The Complete Series is released on Blu-ray on Monday 2 December.
