We’ve come to the end of another year of telly that brought us some unforgettable shows.
Drama, sitcoms, reality TV and even This Morning gave us moments that got us talking this year.
Remember when The Big Bang Theory ended? Or Arya Stark’s heroic moment in Game Of Thrones? How about that shock plot twist in Line Of Duty?
These are just three of the 22 standout TV moments that we’ve rounded up to look back on as the year draws to a close.
There was plenty to talk about on the small screen in 2019 – here’s to all the jaw-dropping stuff next year will bring!
Drag Race UK crowns its first ever winner
The Vivienne made herstory as the first ever winner of the first ever Drag Race UK.
The Liverpudlian queen beat out Divina DiCampo and Baga Chipz to the top spot after eight weeks of acting, shade and a whole lot of sequins to come out on top.
Arya Stark kills the Night King on Game Of Thrones
Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) became the hero of the hour when she managed to kill the Night King during an intense battle at Winterfell in season eight.
The moment was controversial as many fans felt it did away with the Night King, who has been plaguing Westeros for eight seasons, a bit too quickly.
However the moment was just too badass to not include here.
Great British Bake Off finalists pay tribute to contestant Henry Bird
When contestant Henry Bird was voted of Bake Off this year, the remaining contestants paid tribute to him by wearing ties in a nice nod to the 20-year-old choice of outfit most weeks.
Jenny Ryan from The Chase crushes it on Celebrity X Factor
We were more used to seeing her as the Vixen on the ITV game show, but her appearance on The X Factor revealed she has serious pipes as well as brains.
She was so popular that the backlash to her unexpected early exit after judges’ houses prompted the show to bring her back for the live shows as a wild card. That’s people power!
Julia dies in Bodyguard (or does she?) (Yes) (Probably)
The question on everyone’s lips to this day is whether Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes) was killed in a bomb blast.
Although viewers heard a radio report confirmed she had died after the terrorist attack (plus there was that spoilerific Radio Times cover), fans are still convinced she didn’t bite the dust as we never saw her body.
Whether she survived or not, it was a moment that got everyone talking.
Baby Yoda on The Mandalorian
The face that launched a thousand memes was introduced to us on the Disney+ series, almost upstaging Pedro Pascal’s titular character.
If the little guy wasn’t being a nuisance in the Mandalorian’s vehicle, he was cutely (or snidely) sipping soup while bundled up in a blanket. In a year when the world experienced a lot of division, Baby Yoda brought everyone together.
Phillip Schofield pranks Holly Willoughby on This Morning
Poor Holly almost turned the air blue after an epic April Fool’s Day prank from her co-host, involving the show’s fashion segment.
We won’t ruin it for you by telling you what happens. Just watch it.
Euphoria – Rue’s relapse
In the season one finale of the gripping teen drama, Rue (Zendaya) appeared to be ditched by Jules (Hunter Schafer) and seemingly relapsed as she tried to cope with being abandoned.
The episode launched into the song All For Us, by Zendaya and Labrinth, and saw Rue in a street held aloft by a group of dancers.
At the end she looked up into the sky before dropping into the heap of dancers, leaving viewers to speculate that she might have overdosed.
It was a heartbreaking scene cleverly filmed, and a good reminder that Zendaya is an incredible singer as well as an incredible everything else.
BTS emulate The Beatles
This was, in a word, iconic.
The K-pop group became The Beatles for a performance, shot in black and white, of Boy With Luv on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert back in May.
The Beatles were the perfect choice for the south Korean members to embody, as both groups inspired the same passionate, die-hard support from their fans.
With their agency BigHit entertainment releasing a mysterious teaser this week hinting at something new from RM, Jimin, V, Jungkook, Suga, J-Hope and Jin, we can’t wait to see what they do next in 2020.
Meryl Streep screaming on Big Little Lies
Bizarre and terrifying, Meryl Streep made one hell of an impression when she joined the cast of Big Little Lies for season two.
Jordyn Woods discusses her involvement with Tristan Thompson
In a memorable episode of Red Table Talk, Jordyn Woods cleared the air about the rumours she had cheated with Tristan Thompson, the now ex of Khloe Kardashian who shares a daughter with him.
Jordyn used the opportunity to clear her name, stating categorically there was nothing going on between them.
Red Table Talk (and Jordyn herself) had given the show plenty of build up beforehand and knew it would be a must-watch episode – which it was.
Gemma Collins eats dirt – well, ice – on Dancing On Ice
The addition of Gemma Collins to this year’s line-up promised to be a treat, and the Towie star didn’t disappoint.
As well as her fantastic performance outfits and on-air spat with judge Jason Gardiner, Gemma provided a standout TV moment when she suffered a fall during one of her routines.
Recalling the moment on the Christmas special, Gemma said: ‘I remember thinking: “I’m nearly at the end, I haven’t fallen yet. Oh my God, this is a miracle, maybe I’ll stay in for one more week.”
‘And then I got so excited, I just went too over the top with my movement – which you’re not allowed to do in ice skating.
‘And then my toe pick got caught and bang, I thought I was dead. I literally thought I was dead. ‘And then I just got up and thought: “Oh no, my life is over”.’
John Corbett dies on Line Of Duty
Line Of Duty Jed Mercurio is known for creating incredible shock deaths, and Corbett (Stephen Graham) biting the dust in this year’s series was no exception.
He had been the main character for four episodes until he met a grisly end when he was betrayed by Lisa McQueen (Rochenda Sandall), ending up with his throat cut.
Corbett had been convinced that ‘H’ is in fact Ted Hastings, but at the end of the series it turned out the criminal mastermind might be more than one person.
Star Martin Compston, who plays Steve Arnott, has every right to be scared of what’s coming next.
Villanelle shoots Eve on Killing Eve
Killing Eve’s second season culminated in a tense showdown in which Villanelle (Jodie Comer) confessed her love for Eve (Sandra Oh).
When she was rejected, Villanelle snapped and appeared to gun Eve down.
We’re hoping that won’t be the last we see of her, but as writer Emerald Fennell previously said, no one is safe.
The final scene of Catastrophe’s last episode
This scene was great because it left us with more questions than answers.
The critically acclaimed Channel 4 sitcom ended its fourth and final series with a holiday in the US – where upon arrival Rob Norris’s (Rob Delaney) mother, played by the late Carrie Fisher, tragically dies.
After a funeral tribute on the beach, the final scene sees schoolteacher Sharon (Sharon Horgan) reveal to Rob how she’s pregnant for a third time – after the first time around sparked the pair to stay together to begin with.
After agreeing to continue their lives together, they both run out into the sea as the camera slowly zooms out with Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs (Continued) playing in the background.
While this appears to be a unified, somewhat happy end to the show – some viewers were particularly concerned by how far the pair swam from the shore, especially after seeing a sign which warned of riptides at sea.
The lift gets fixed in The Big Bang Theory
The broken lift in the block of flats where Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) live had been an ongoing sight gag on the sitcom for 12 seasons.
In the two-part finale, Penny surprised her friends by taking a ride up in the now-fixed lift in the middle of Sheldon’s latest freak out in a brilliant scene.
Star Cuoco recalled that at the taping of the episode, the studio audience ‘screamed for like five minutes’ when Penny emerged from the lift.
Love Island – Michael recouples with Joanna as Amber stays faithful
One of the most shocking moments from Love Island this year involved Casa Amor (doesn’t it always?), and Amber Gill was horrified to find Michael Griffiths had dumped her for newcomer Joanna Chimonides.
After originally calling Joanna a ‘dead ting’, Amber moved on with Greg O’Shea and the pair went on to win the show. They’ve since split up though.
That horrendous sex scene in MotherFatherSon
Caden (Billy Howle) the son of media mogul Max (Richard Gere) ordered an unsuspecting girl to his apartment, and the pair engage in one of the most uncomfortable sex scenes of the year.
He demanded that she act as though she didn’t know anything about sex or her body, barking at her: ‘Find your c**t. The slit between your legs.’
Howle admitted he was ‘unprepared’ for what went down, saying: ‘You can know what the location is and how we’re going to light it, but actually, in the moment at that time, you don’t know what’s going to happen with two good actors, in my opinion.
‘That can be quite scary and it’s unique, unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.’
Cal is Doctor Manhattan in Watchmen
Fans were knocked for six in the first season when Detective Angela Abar’s (Regina King) husband Cal (Yahya Abdul-Mateen) was revealed to be the missing Doctor Manhattan she had been looking for all season.
Star Abdul-Mateen got in on the fun with fans after the episode, simply sharing a short video of himself laughing his head off. The tease.
Cheat – The toilet cubicle scene
This ITV thriller, at four episodes long, might have passed you by, but it’s definitely worth seeking out on catch up.
It starred Katherine Kelly and Molly Windsor as lecturer Leah and student Rose respectively, who are caught up in a game of cat and mouse when Leah accuses Rose of cheating in an essay.
We knew we were in for something different when Rose caught Leah masturbating in the toilets in episode one – an uncomfortable moment that set up how far each woman was willing to go to get under the other’s skin.
The dog scene on Chernobyl
One episode of this brilliant drama saw young volunteer Pavel (Barry Keoghan) sign up to the liquidator team to help limit the disaster’s effects.
He is guided around the surrounding areas of Chernobyl to hunt contaminated animals, where he is faced with the distressing scenario of having to kill harmless animals.
Under the umbrella of the nuclear disaster, it was the heartbreaking minutiae such as this that put Chernobyl at the top of everyone’s ‘best TV of 2019’ list. That Emmy nod is well deserved.
Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse win Strictly Come Dancing
Kelvin Fletcher’s win on Strictly Come Dancing was such an uplifting moment and a win well deserved.
The actor was brought in at the last minute to replace Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Laing, who injured his foot and was forced to quit.
No one knew the swap would work out so well, as Kelvin and Oti set the dancefloor alight (that salsa? Hello???) and genuinely seemed to be having fun together as well.
It was lovely to see such a well-liked pairing lift the glitterball, and it was brilliant to see Oti finally get the trophy she richly deserves.
