Game of Thrones author George RR Martin gets rinsed on Jeopardy (Picture: NBC/Getty)

Game of Thrones fans have been impatiently waiting for George RR Martin to drop his latest novel the Winds of Winter series and now even US game show Jeopardy is holding the author to account.

It’s been almost 10 years since martin announced the latest in his Song of Ice and Fire series.

Since then Game of Thrones has completely wrapped up, with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss being forced to plod along with the series without Martin’s work as a compass.

In turn, the HBO juggernaut suffered from petitions calling for the final season to be rewritten amassing almost two million signatures and counting.

But it seems no one is angrier than whoever comes up with the questions on Jeopardy because earlier this week they let rip on Martin.

Host Alex Trebek asked players to name the writer behind this clue: ‘After nearly a decade of waiting this author assures us The Winds of Winter is coming – there’s an excerpt on his website.’

George RR Martin burn on Jeopardy

That is most definitely a burn.

Jeopardy isn’t the only one rinsing Martin. Last month the 71-year-old made a ‘special announcement’ only to reveal his Fire and Blood book, the inspiration behind the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel House of Dragon, will be available in paperback.

The reaction was a bloodbath of Red Wedding proportions on social media.

He also warned we won’t be seeing any House of Dragon until he’s finished Winds of Winter.

So don’t hold your breath.

Game of Thrones is available to stream on NOW TV. Jeopardy airs weekdays on NBC.
