Game of Thrones star Gemma Whelan has admitted she was worried that having her baby would ruin her career.
But the actress, who played Yara Greyjoy in the hit HBO series, gladly realised her career would not be over when she asked if she could bring her baby on set.
She became an immediate icon after a picture of her breastfeeding daughter Frances on the GoT set while wearing her costume emerged.
She told the Radio Times: ‘I was worried, as many actors are, that if I had a baby my career would be over.
‘Actually, if you just ask for what you need without being an idiot, it [taking your baby on set] isn’t insurmountable. And your career isn’t over.’
The image of her and Frances made her a bit of an ‘It girl’ for the #normalisebreastfeeding movement, something she was not even aware of at the time.
‘It wasn’t a conscious decision to pioneer breastfeeding, because that’s not my place,’ Gemma added. ‘I’ve got one kid and I do a bit of boobing: I’m no one, but I was proud to show how accepted it was [on set].
‘When you have the right support around you, it’s easy to achieve. It’s something that should be achievable for everybody.’
Gemma recently joined the cast of another beloved drama, as she will be popping up in Killing Eve season three.
She will be portraying the daughter of spy boss Carolyn (Fiona Shaw) in the Jodie Comer and Sanda Oh-led high-tension thriller.
Gemma has already promised that fans can expect a lot of shockers in the new run of episodes.
One massive shocker has already occurred, of course, with the death of a beloved character that also nicely paves the way for the actress’ character to appear.
Killing Eve season 3 episode 1 is available to stream now via BBC iPlayer.
