Showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss opted not to go in this direction, as Nell explained: “They wanted Myrcella’s death to reflect her life, and wanted it to be sweet—which is rare for [Game of] Thrones.”
Thankfully, Thrones fans were spared this gruesome death scene, although many viewers still haven’t forgiven the series for unceremoniously taking out one Westeros’ most innocent.
Myrcella’s disappointing portrayal could be redeemed when she returns in Martin’s upcoming instalment The Winds of Winter, which is hoped to hit shelves in the next year.
