Has Taylor Swift penned a song about Daenerys Targaryen on Folklore?

While we’ve binged on more banana bread than we thought humanly possible and pretended to take up yoga, Taylor Swift wrote and recorded an entire new album in lockdown and it appears she’s written a song about Game of Thrones’ fallen hero, Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke).

The pop icon dropped her eighth studio album Folklore last week with just a few hours’ notice, receiving a sky of five-star reviews and shifting 1.3 million copies in a single day.

The bops are aplenty but there’s one track which has sparked speculation from Swifties, who are convinced there’s a nod to the Mother of Dragons and her descent to the ‘Mad Queen’ during the fantasy epic’s final season.

Game of Thrones’ divisive final chapter was slammed for more reasons than we could count but perhaps the biggest disappointment was Dany’s sudden and unexplained descent to madness which for many stank of sexism, giving in to misguided stereotypes of women in power.

Taylor previously revealed several tracks and lyrics in her sixth album Reputation were inspired by the women in Game of Thrones, and fans think she’s at it again.

‘Taylor wrote mad woman for Daenerys Targaryen and you can’t convince me otherwise,’ stressed one Swifty, and they weren’t alone.

Another asked the fandom: ‘Ok so mad woman is about Daenerys, right?’

‘The song “Mad Woman” is actually about Daenerys Targaryen, a.k.a. the Mad Queen. I will swear this on the Old Gods and the New if I have to,’ speculated a third.

And many more agreed:

While Daenerys’ plight was a sort point for fans, Emilia Clarke’s general heroism continues to break through after her co-star Nathalie Emmanuel revealed the 33-year-old once shut down a co-star who condemned one of Missandei’s outfits.

Taylor Swift’s Folklore is available to download now while Game of Thrones is available to stream on NOW TV.
