Netflix has amassed a star-studded cast for Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming stop-motion version of Pinocchio.

Back in June, Ewan McGregor confirmed he had joined the cast, voicing the beloved insect, Jiminy Cricket.

Now, Netflix has announced that Game of Thrones‘ David Bradley will star as Geppetto, with newcomer Gregory Mann playing Pinocchio.

The cast also includes Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and Oscar winners Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz and Cate Blanchett.

John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman will also star.

Speaking about the film, del Toro said: “After years of pursuing this dream project, I found my perfect partner in Netflix.

“We have spent a long time curating a remarkable cast and crew and have been blessed by continuous support from Netflix to quietly and carefully soldier on, barely missing a beat.

“We all love and practice animation with great passion and believe it to be the ideal medium to retell this classic story in a completely new way.”

McGregor previously revealed that he had already almost finished recording his dialogue for the movie.

“It’s stop-frame animation so it’s going to take them a great long time to make that film,” he said. “But my first part of that, which is recording his dialogue, is sort of done.”

“There may or may not be a song that needs to be recorded,” he then teased. “I’m not sure that I’m at liberty to discuss that.”

Pinocchio is currently scheduled to arrive on Netflix in 2021.
