Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has revealed the uncomfortable downside to the women’s costumes on set.

The Daenerys Targaryen actress got to wear plenty of impressive clobber during her time on the HBO show, from desert-dwelling rags to much thicker, royal attire for the later episodes in colder environments.

However, it seems the female stars of the show weren’t afforded the same benefits as the men when it came to shooting in hotter countries.

Speaking at the Edinburgh Television Festival, Clarke explained how the men had in-built cooling systems in their thick costumes, while the women just had to sweat it out.

“The guys in the Night’s Watch, Jon Snow, are wearing a woolly mammoth all the time,” she said.

“When we were shooting things in a hot country when they had all of those things on, they had this pump that had its own little generator attached into the costumes.

“They used it to pump cold water into these pipes and cool them all down so underneath they had this weird kind of cooling system. But girls weren’t allowed that. All I could get was the back of my wig to be lifted up.”

She added: “It’s too hard, I’ve got a wig on, they don’t make cold packs you know, you put ice packs on yourself.”

They definitely could have lined her wig with some massive cooling strips or something. Come on.

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
