While I certainly think it’s a possibility, the chief content officer for both HBO and HBO Max, Casey Bloys, recently spoke with Variety and talked about the idea of Game of Thrones rising to the level of Star Wars or Marvel. You can check out what he had to say below.
“Those are fantastic properties that are decades and decades old. I don’t know that it would get that big, but certainly it is a great resource that we have and an amazing world. So I don’t think it’s just going to be the one [show] for the rest of its life.”

I’ve loved Star Wars for a long time. However, there was a time not too long ago when I came to the realization that I favored Game of Thrones over the galaxy far, far away. It wasn’t by much, but enough for me to notice. Currently, I can’t tell you which one I hold in higher regard.
Since Game of Thrones’ downfall, and The Mandalorian‘s uprising, I’d have to say it’s pretty close to even for me at the moment. I’m sure this will likely change in the future. I guess a lot depends on which franchise’s content I am currently invested in and the quality of that content.
