Way back in June of 2019, in the before time before the pandemic hit, From Software — the developer behind famously difficult games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — announced a new project: Elden Ring, a new game with a medieval flare.
And if you’re making a bloody medieval action game, why not call up the man famous for killing off characters in his wildly popular medieval book series? A Song of Ice and Fire author and Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin worked with From Software director Hidetaka Miyazaki on this game. “Building the world of Elden Ring with Miyazaki-san and his team was a treat!” Martin said at the time. “The graphics, mythos, and action-RPG gameplay will deliver an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for people to see what Elden Ring has in store for them.”
A trailer for Elden Ring leaks
According to Video Games Chronicle, the game was suffered some pandemic-related delays since then, but it looks like we might be getting more official word soon, as snippets of a trailer have leaked online and been making the rounds — we’re not gonna post them here out of fear of legal reprisal, but they’re not hard to find.
“I can only imagine what drives you to seek the Elden Ring,” a narrator says. “I suppose you can’t be talked into turning back. Very well then!” Don’t do it. You’re gonna die so many times.
The trailer also includes gameplay, with an armored main character riding a horse and engaging in Souls-like melee combat with knights, skeletons and some wicked-looking bosses. And there’s a fire-breaking dragon, because of course there’s a fire-breathing dragon.
There’s no release date for Elden Ring as of yet.
