As soon as Game of Thrones ended, we wept and waited for HBO to announce more GoT content. Which they did quickly with tons of new ideas, only to shut it all down just as fast. The only surviving show to miss the axe was the announced House of the Dragon, which has begun casting including Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One), and Paddy Considine (The Third Day).  House of the Dragon will be set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and focus on a civil war in the Targaryen House.  But what else could pique our GoT interest?  Apparently, HBO is hoping quite a lot.

9 Voyages aka Sea Snake

Steve-Toussaint-websiteThis project has the most bones after House of the Dragon considering a creative team has been brought on and the famed voyager himself has been cast.  Steve Toussaint (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) has been cast as Lord Corlys Velaryon, the most famed nautical adventurer of Westeros. His bloodline is almost as old as the Targaryens, as wealthy as the Lannisters, and he has the largest navy in the world. Toussaint is set to appear as Corlys in HotD but this casting could offer a wider net of opportunities. Bruno Heller (Rome co-creator) is attached and given the variety of places to visit around Westeros and beyond, that we’ve heard of but never seen, this adventure series could fill the void with some great exploration on the great ship “Sea Snake.”

Flea Bottom

One of the more notorious places in Westeros, we have gotten to know an assortment of characters from the poorer place in King’s Landing.  Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham), Gentry (Joe Dempsie), and a whole host of other characters have provided stories and descriptions of the life there. Who could resist a bowl of brown and a walk down the darker streets of the city? No talent has been attached so we’ll see if anything comes to fruition from this one as well as the next. There’s plenty of meat there, but what kind of stories could the show produce and would it be enough to maintain for several seasons?

Based around Nymeria (the one Arya named her direwolf after), the warrior who fled to Dorne after defeat by the Valyrian Freehold in the Second Spice War, this tale would take place 1,000 years before Arya would name her direwolf. The warrior queen earned quite a reputation in Westeros, hence Arya’s love for her. Following a warrior queen on her travels would give us the same Dany or Arya energy we got from Game of Thrones. It could offer the same visual representation of areas of the world we haven’t gotten to see yet, but also follow a bad*ss woman which I feel is something a lot of us (especially women) need right now.

Tales of Dunk and Egg 2021_1$largeimg_608610650

Based on Martin’s series of novellas, this show would follow Ser Duncan the Tall and future king Aegon V. Targaryen.  Dunk and Egg would be closer to the GoT timeline, occurring only 90 years before the events of Song of Ice and Fire.  Some names and events would be more recognizable to the viewers and offer us probably a buddy adventure vibe we got with Jaime and Brienne. This is in very early talks but there’s source material to build on, just no writer attached yet.

Animated Series in the GoT Universe

This one seems to have the least amount of legs to stand on, but you can’t blame HBO for trying to cover all their bases. No story has been thrown out or creative attached, but HBO Max is eyeing the idea. Can’t blame them, honestly. Adult animated shows have certainly had a boost in popularity over the last few years. A fantasy, fighting one could be something to get on board with. Can you ever go wrong with animated dragons?  I think not!!!

We’ll see which of these make it and which get the axe on the next go around. HBO is certainly on board with maintaining as much GoT content as they can. The show was a driving force for them, so it’s not surprising they would want to stick around that content. Of the shows, which sounds most exciting to you?  I’m eagerly awaiting House of the Dragon, but I could definitely get on board with something GoT animated! And Nymeria? Yes please, all the bad*ss, female energy!  Sound off in the comments and let me know!
