Hannibal is a tale as old as time…well, at least as old as the early ’90s, when Anthony Hopkins first played the horrifying role of genius cannibal Hannibal Lecter. Fast forward to the 2010s, and we got to watch a TV show about Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) and criminal profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy).
It was a short-lived series with a huge fan following, and many hope the cancellation will be reversed and that a fourth season will give us the ending the characters deserve. In the meantime, fans are keeping hope alive through their own work. According to The Hill, high school student Kathleen Palmer from Medford, New Jersey won the Congressional Art Competition with her submission of Hannibal fan art. Her prize? It will be hung in the U.S. Capitol Building.
The artwork, titled “Dolce” seems to be a reference back to the sixth episode of the third season. You know, the one in which Hannibal almost took a bite out of Will Graham?
Is this what it takes to get Hannibal a fourth season?
Rep. Andy Kim of New Jersey’s Third District complimented the cubist artwork and posted it on Twitter. He probably didn’t realize that it would result in him hearing a lot of cannibal-related jokes, but it comes with the territory, I guess.
Series creator Bryan Fuller even chimed in, commenting “WOW” in response to the painting. And that prompted a conversation between him and the representative about a potential fourth season:
