The tale of the Game of Thrones season 8 controversy still lives in the minds of the die-hard fans. It has been three years since HBO’s money-making mint wrapped up filming, but people can’t stop talking about it. After all, the highly popular and record-breaking show divided its fandom with a controversial and a rather rushed-up final season. Not just the fans, but the cast of the series is split up upon the same issue. Famous comic writer Neil Gaiman is quite wary of that, and prevented such a mistake from happening.

One of the major issues fans have with the finale was the lack of written material to rely on past Season 6, as Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin has yet to finish Winds of Winter. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gaiman confessed that he didn’t have any source material left for the show, as the American Gods novel came out nearly 20 years ago. He had a sequel in mind, but until it takes shape, they have decided to give the TV series a pause, much to the fans’ disappointment.

Gaiman said, “Having watched the George R.R. Martin of it, I will be perfectly happy for ‘American Gods’ to stop for five years, so I can write another novel they could then use for inspiration and start again if people are still interested.”

“There were moments, which they were very good about listening to, when I would say, ‘Okay, nobody but you two knows anything at all about the plot of American Gods 2, but I need to tell you that this line, which seems like a bit of dialogue that you could lose, will become important. Or this little scene — an indigenous scene — which seems trivial will become important one day and if we get to season 5, we’ll need it then, so let’s put it here now.’”

Do you think Gaiman did the right thing by giving American Gods a rest? Tell us in the comments below!
