Will Arnett has joined the cast of Twisted Metal as a homicidal clown who murders his enemies with an ice cream truck.

Of all the numerous video games that are being adapted for television right now, Peacock’s Twisted Metal show might be the weirdest. The games it’s based on are the equivalent of fighting games with cars; players drive ridiculous vehicles decked out with rocket launchers, flame throwers, and so on while trying to destroy every other car in their vicinity. Twisted Metal is technically the longest running PlayStation-exclusive franchise, though it hasn’t seen a new title since 2012. (We’d be willing to bet there will be another installment around the release of this show.)

But even if people doing their damnedest to slaughter each other in absurd cars doesn’t sound like a shoe-in for the Emmys, the cast of the new show is impressive. We already knew that Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) would be headlining the show as John Doe, a sharp-witted milk man on a quest to reach New San Francisco. Then it was announced that Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will be playing a “badass car thief” named Quiet and that Thomas Hayden Church (Spider-Man 3) will portray the villainous Agent Stone, a highway patrolman who “rules the roads with a silver tongue and a twisted iron fist.” On top of that, Scream star Neve Campbell will guest star as a character named Raven, who drove a decked-out hearse in the games.

And the news kept piling in today, as The A.V. Club reports that Will Arnett (Arrested Development, Bojack Horseman) will be playing Sweet Tooth, a homicidal clown who drives an ice cream truck. It’s not yet clear if his head will be perpetually on fire like it is in the games, but we’re open to anything. If Twisted Metal can be said to have a mascot, it’s this guy.

Arnett was already attached to the series as a producer, so it’s no surprise to see him join the cast. Twisted Metal is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the duo behind Deadpool. It’s being developed as a half-hour action comedy series, and with all the talent that’s getting behind the show, it may end up being a whole lot of fun. It’s due to start filming any time now.

Twisted Metal is expected to premiere on Peacock sometime in 2023.
