Odemia Hall

Mia passed away at home early in the morning of June 8th after a courageous battle with cancer, just 4 days shy of her 51st birthday.

Mia was born in Jutiapa, Guatemala on June 12,1971 to Consuelo Zapata and Elixalen Moran and immigrated to Los Angeles with her mother and brother in 1980. Throughout her life she made many trips to Guatemala to share with others the beauty of the country she is from and to visit family but made California her home. Many of you may know her birthday to be August 27th, but that’s a story for another time.

It was quintessential for Mia to be positive, happy and the life of the party. Her personality was contagious and working with Mia was just plain fun. Mia had many careers throughout her life. She worked for the County of Los Angeles and twice worked for different law firms. In 2008 she earned her Associates degree, a Paralegal Certificate and began learning French during an exchange trip to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean. She spent the last ten years working as a production planner. Mia loved to travel and during her few years as a flight attendant for United, just prior to 9/11, she traveled all over the US and to London many times. Sadly, she never completed her dream of going to Paris.

The simplest pleasures in life brought Mia great joy. She loved spending time with friends and family, playing games, telling stories, and creating memories, a glass of wine in her hand and laughing the whole time. She loved goofy funny movies and TV shows, using lines from them all of the time to create laughter. Reviewing the list of her favorites below may remind you of some of them and provide a glimpse of her uncanny ability to find happiness in everyday activities. Mia’s laugh could brighten up the gloomiest of rooms. She is a special woman who is loved deeply and was taken too soon.

Mia is survived by her husband of sixteen years, Jeff; her brother, Elixalen; stepson, Kyle; stepdaughter, Bridgette; her dear puppies, Nacho and Charlie; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins.
