A Gloucester man who performed in Games of Thrones has officially made it onto The British Stunt Register. It has taken around three years for him to complete his training, but he had his eyes set on his goal from the age of 17-years-old.

Olly Lloyd, 22 knew what he wanted to do with his life as soon as he became aware he could make a career out of being a stuntman when he was a teenager. He has completed six modules to secure his place on the register.

Already he has been working on TV and film productions, such as Game of Thrones and EastEnders. Just before the pandemic hit, Olly appeared on Britain’s Got Talent with a friend helping them with their routine.

Olly said: “I know I am lucky to have the coolest job in the world. I started off in gymnastics and then started parkour, jumping off buildings and stuff.

“Then I started getting into professional wrestling. Then I heard you could make a career being a stuntman and I thought to myself that sounds mega.

“I looked at the criteria on the website and there are ten categories to chose from. I took up scuba diving, rock climbing, gymnastics, rally driving, martial arts and trampolining.

“Covid got in the way of some of the training being competed but in all it was done in three years.”

Olly trains regularly to keep in shape. The hard graft is paying off.

Olly said: “I train a minimum of twice a day. You have to keep your body supple and fit as possible so stunts hurt less but where you can, you pad up as much as possible.

“I have been to some mad locations where I have to be on location at 5am in the morning. I had times where I was sleeping in the car because it was what I had to do to get to the job.

“I have been really lucky in my work. I have just come back from three months in Morocco filming a series for the BBC.

“The work is awesome. I get to meet some amazing and crazy people. I do not want to name drop the famous people I know and have met but I would say when you meet and get to know them, they are just so normal.”

Olly says anyone with a dream should work hard and be prepared to do what it takes to achieve your dreams.

He said: “It has cost me a fair amount to put me through the training but it has been worth it, as I have a fantastic job. I have set up my own gymnastics schools called Lloyds Academy of Gymnastics which started in Gloucester but now I have branches in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.

“I still love teaching when I can get there. I knew as soon as I started on the path to being on the stunt register, I had to make a plan to get my training done.

“Anyone who wants to do it has to be ready to go. The more you can do the better.

“The other week I was asked to skate board don a hill and swerve in front of someone, where as the other week I was asked if I could do work on a BMX.

“Just work at it and be adaptable. I know I am so lucky in my work but it has taken a lot to get there.”
