House Of The Dragon fans watching the latest episode spotted a familiar face all the way from Barry Island.
In the premiere as well as the latest installment of the Game Of Thrones spin-off, Second by the Name, we were introduced to the Hand of the King Ser Otto Hightower’s brother, Ser Hobert Hightower.
The character is portrayed by none other than Steffan Rhodri, who also appeared as Dave Coaches in the hit rom-com Gavin and Stacey.
Many viewers took to social media to express their surprise at seeing the actor switch out dodgems for dragons in his new role.
‘Can’t believe wee Dave Coaches is running about Westeros nowadays acting as if he doesn’t love the dodgems! 🤣🤣 #HouseoftheDragon #GavinAndStacey,’ one Twitter user posted.
Another wrote: ‘Watching #HouseoftheDragon & then go “OH, that’s Dave Coaches”‘
A third said: ‘Watching #HouseoftheDragon or rather, playing “what’s this guy from?” and enjoying the British television universe crossovers of the dad from Fleabag, Dave Coaches from Gavin & Stacey, and the hot twins from Shameless’.
Steffan is no stranger to the fantasy genre after playing roles in the likes of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Wonder Woman.
Since its release, House Of The Dragon has sparked a renewed interest in the Targaryen family on which it focuses but has also seen people take a closer look at the Hightowers.
The Hightowers hold a great deal of political power, with strong ties to the crown as King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) rules from the Iron Throne.
In addition to being a strong ally to the Targaryen family, the Hightowers also appear to have a lot of ambition themselves as they operate with cunning in King’s Landing.
They include Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), the Hand of the King, and his daughter Lady Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey), who’s a close friend of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock).
House of The Dragon is available to stream on NOW.
