Get ready to slay Bokoblins and cook up some tasty baked apples: we’re going back to Hyrule! Nintendo has just unveiled a trailer for its highly-anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The announcement came during the Nintendo Direct showcase on September 13, confirming the release date and title for the new Zelda game along with tons of information about other Nintendo titles, like Kirby and Fire Emblem.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel coming on May 12, 2023!
The next installment in the long-running Legend of Zelda franchise will be titled The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and will feature a similar gameplay style and design as its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. The new title feels a little clunky to me, but there’s no denying the grandeur as Link dives off of floating mountains and stands atop an ancient glider in the reveal trailer. Maybe it’ll grow on us!
“In addition to the vast lands of Hyrule, the latest entry in the storied Legend of Zelda series will take you up into the skies and an expanded world that goes beyond that,” Nintendo said in a press release, per The Verge. “Look forward to Link’s massive adventure starting again when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, drops for Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.”
Tears of the Kingdom originally began as a DLC expansion for Breath of the Wild, but as the creative team realized how many ideas they had, it soon ballooned into a full game. Few details are known about its gameplay or story, but we can see a few mechanics from Breath of the Wild present in the trailer, like Link climbing up vertical mountainsides. No sign of the trademark cooking pot yet, but we’re betting you’ll be able to make plenty sumptuous meals in this game as well.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be releasing on May 12, 2023 on Nintendo Switch.
