Jamie Lee Curtis is getting ready to bid farewell to the Halloween franchise and is trying to convince the rest of us that this is truly the final entry in the series. While I believe that she is done, I’m not convinced that we’ll never get another Halloween movie. I mean, come on, they haven’t let it go for the past 40 years, do we believe that it’s truly over?
At New York Comic Con this past weekend, Curtis spoke about the end of the franchise. “I’m ready to end it, but I’m going to miss you all so much.” she said during the Halloween panel, which was moderated by Drew Barrymore. “Endings are a b***h, but so is Laurie Strode.”
It was quite an emotional moment as Curtis has been playing the role of Laurie Strode for nearly 40 years, on and off. It’s not easy to say goodbye and walk away from a role that you’ve held close to you for so long. I’m not sure how this franchise would look without her!
Jamie Lee Curtis says goodbye to the Halloween franchise
Halloween Ends will pick up about four years after last year’s Halloween Kills, during which Laurie’s daughter Karen (Judy Greer) died in a very dramatic fashion. In the new movie, Laurie’s granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) is writing a memoir, and Michael Myers has been MIA since the last time he went on a killing rampage.
Curtis shared that Laurie will be in a different mindset during this final movie because she’s finally done something she’s never done before: therapy!
“She’s gotten grief therapy, so she’s not able to heal fully, but she’s able to live alongside her grief now. It doesn’t consume her, so maybe for a second, you get this idea that she’s going to be okay,” Curtis said. Interestingly enough, she also revealed that in Halloween Ends, Laurie will find herself being an object of ridicule from other residents of Haddonfield. They’re over it, and they blame Laurie for all the death and murder their town has had to face.
We’ll have to wait and see how this franchise is going to “end,” but I am looking forward to Jamie Lee Curtis’ final hurrah as Laurie Strode. It’s going to be tough to say goodbye!
