Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon will feature 17 dragons in total, and Princess Rhaenys’ copper-crested dragon Meleys is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of them all. Rhaenys, known as The Queen who never Was, played by Eve Best, makes a daring escape with the help of Ser Erryk Cargyll on the Red Queen, and the way she breaks out of the clutches of her captors is simply breathtaking.

In a new behind-the-scenes footage from House of The Dragon, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole), writer Sara Hess, and the showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, along with the crew explained how they brought the floor-shattering scene to life.

Miguel Sapochnik: We knew that we needed a penultimate scene. There had been this kind of, “Ah, well, it’ll be a coronation,” et cetera. And I just kept thinking to myself, “We’ve got to do better than this.”

Sara Hess: I just remember we were in the writer’s room one day, and I was like, “It would be awesome if Rhaenys just came through the floor on her dragon.”

Fabien Frankel: Trying to act opposite a man holding a stick with a ball on it, with a dragon.

Simon Brindle (Armor Supervisor): Rhaenys’ armor was a really nice one to make. It’s quite understated and very elegant. It obviously shows power and wealth but it’s not too in your face. But it was probably 10 to 12 weeks in terms of modeling to get the form right.

Rhaenys: I’m told it looks amazing. It’s unbelievably uncomfortable.
