Ask, and we shall receive! Just a few days ago, we got our first look at Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 5, hoping we’d learn more about the movie in the coming days. Little did we know, we’d get them just a few short days after that!
Thanks to an Empire exclusive, we know what shenanigans Professor Henry Jones Jr. will be getting up to in the franchise’s fifth installment. The new movie will take place during the summer of 1969. The Professor will be up against former Nazis of the Third Reich, nearly two decades after World War II ended.
According to the article, the plot will involve Operation Paperclip, which is a real-life thing where the United States government hired Nazi scientists after the end of the war. I imagine Indy will not be happy to learn his own government gave protection to the enemies he fought for years.
Indiana Jones 5 plot and character details
Indiana Jones 5 co-screenwriter Jez Butterworth talked about the Operation Paperclip storyline. “The simple fact is that the moon-landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis,” he said. “How ‘ex’ they are is the question. And it gets up Indy’s nose…”
Interesting, very interesting.
We also learned more about Mads Mikkelsen’s character. He will be playing a former Nazi named Voller who is now working for NASA. “He’s a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past,” Mikkelsen said. “There is something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He would love to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it as well. And so, we have a story.”
Harrison Ford was de-aged for Indiana Jones 5
This movie is sounding more and more exciting by the day. We’ve got Indiana Jones, Nazis, and a group of villains that may or may not be trying to redeem themselves for their former atrocities. And because this is Indiana Jones, there has to be some sort of ancient artifact involved, right?
If all of this isn’t enough to get you excited, then how about the fact that Ford was de-aged through ILM’s incredible visual effects software? Apparently even Ford was floored by how great the younger version of himself turned out.
Indiana Jones 5 releases in theaters on June 30, 2023.
