Marvel Studios is reportedly considering its options following the arrest of actor Jonathan Majors. Majors, who has recently become a rising star thanks in part to his breakout performance as new Marvel supervillain Kang the Conqueror, was arrested in March 2023 on charges of domestic violence.
While the incident has not yet had any formal impact on Majors’ involvement with Marvel, reports suggest that the studio is taking a wait-and-see approach to the situation. Marvel has not released an official statement on the matter, but sources close to the production have indicated that there are concerns about the impact that the arrest could have on the actor’s image and career.
Will Marvel recast Kang the Conqueror?
At this point, it is unclear what the potential ramifications could be for Majors’ role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s worth noting, however, that the studio has a history of working with actors who have had brushes with the law. Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man in the MCU, famously battled substance abuse issues before his career resurgence in the late 2000s. That being said, Majors is still a relatively new addition to the Marvel family, and it’s possible that the studio could decide to take a more cautious approach. It’s also possible that the incident could have no impact on his involvement in the franchise at all.
Regardless of what happens, it’s important to remember that actors are people too, and they are not immune to making mistakes. While it’s certainly disappointing to hear about Majors’ arrest, it’s important to remember that he is innocent until proven guilty, and that he deserves the same respect and dignity as any other human being.
