This week, the cast and crew of House of the Dragon filmed the second season in the city in Cáceres, Spain, which will stand in for King’s Landing. The capital of the Extremadura region, Cáceres hosted the City of Dragons fan event in 2022, where people got together all things Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Today, we’re finally announcing the dates for the 2023 edition of Cáceres: City of Dragons, the biggest fan event in Europe honoring the universe of A Song of Ice And Fire.
The convention is for fans of the books and the shows, and it celebrates the city’s strong link with the series. Last year, the event brought in people from all over Spain, Europe, and even a few super fans from South America. The speakers included George R.R. Martin’s co-author Elio Garcia Jr. and various series specialists from Spain, Italy, Germany and France. The panels were live-streamed so thousands more fans could join in virtually from all over the world, and are available to watch on YouTube.
Stars from House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones will attend City of Dragons 2023
“This year, City of Dragons will be bigger and better,” says Javi Marcos, founder of Los Siete Reinos and co-organizer of City of Dragons. The event committee has let us know that members of the casts of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon will be in attendance; their names will be revealed in due time, so stay tuned. Other panelists will include renowned graphic artists and collaborators of George R.R. Martin as well as crew members from the shows, in addition to podcasters, YouTubers, writers and influencers.
In addition to the panels, City of Dragons will also host a cosplay contest, medieval sword fighting classes, Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon-related tours of the city of Cáceres, medieval jousts and sword exhibitions, themed meals, concerts and parades. It’s still too early to reveal the program, but the weekend will be packed with activities, even moreso than last year.
When will Cáceres: City of Dragons 2023 take place?
The event will take place in the historical center of Cáceres during the weekend of November 3-5, 2023. Mark your calendars and get your cosplays and questions ready!
Last year, the weekend kicked off with Targaryen flags being hoisted over the town hall in the presence of administrative officials. Today, the red-on-black three-headed dragon flies from the Tower of Bujaco in Plaza Mayor of Cáceres, to say goodbye to the House of the Dragon cast and crew as they finish filming, alongside a Cáceres: City of Dragon banner, in honor of today’s announcement.
This November, Cáceres will be ready to welcome thousands of fans to this celebration of A Song of Ice and Fire, House of the Dragon, and Game of Thrones. If you can’t make it that particular weekend, make sure to tune in online and come visit the city another time. You can take a themed tour and sight-see at any time of the year! Wandering the streets of the historical center of Cáceres truly feels like walking through King’s Landing.
