The legacy of Game of Thrones extends beyond the boundaries of geopolitical borders. The world created by George R. R. Martin in his books was beautifully translated by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO, at least up to Season 6. There’s a reason why the HBO epic still remains the most binge-watched show of all time.
Even the author of The Three-Body Problem is a fan of Westeros, as confirmed by the showrunners themselves.
David Benioff and D. B. Weiss got ‘3 Body Problem’ because of Game of Thrones
The fame that followed the success of Game of Thrones benefitted Benioff and Weiss greatly. Turns out the creator of The Three-Body Problem, Liu Cixin, is a big Game of Thrones fan. When meeting Alexander Woo, who is co-showrunner of the upcoming Netflix series with Benioff and Weiss, Cixin expressed his love for the HBO epic. Woo told THR,
“The first thing he said was what a big fan of Thrones he was. He then said, ‘I know you’re going to have to make a lot of changes.’ We had Liu’s blessing to adapt the show in the way that we saw fit.”
Even James Gunn’s DCU will be like Westeros
Westeros has become quite a cultural phenomenon that’s relevant to this day. The new DCU head, James Gunn said in a recent interview,
“One of the things that I love about DC, that excites me about DC, is that in a way it’s another alternate history. It is Gotham City and Metropolis and Star City and Bludhaven, and all these different places in this other reality. It makes it a little bit like Westeros in some ways.”
